About the Event
Join Stephanie Samuels, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction practitioner and yoga teacher, on Zoom for an introduction session to explore how mindfulness may support you in living life more fully, with greater ease and joy.
In this intro class we will explore a brief history of MBSR, what mindfulness is and is not, a taste of mindfulness through one or more short guided practices, what to expect from MBSR, including its benefits and risks, plus open time for Q/A. No prior experience is needed to attend this intro workshop and there is no obligation to attend the MBSR course.
MBSR has over 40 years of research that consistently demonstrates positive outcomes associated with increased self-awareness and emotional and attentional regulation. In addition, outcomes highlight statistically significant reductions in symptoms for various physical and behavioral health conditions including anxiety, depression, and chronic pain, along with positive changes in risk factors that may lead to more serious chronic ailments.
The full course is an 8 -week evidence based, experiential program created by Jon Kabat Zinn in 1979 at the UMASS Medical School as a public health initiative to alleviate stress and suffering that is often found in society. MBSR provides participants with intensive and systematic training in mindfulness meditation and movement practices, and integrating into one’s daily life what is discovered and learned through the process of participating in the program. Over the 8 weeks, with the teacher’s guidance, participants learn and practice mindfulness systematically in different ways. They also explore their stress reactivity and habitual patterns mindfully, in a way that helps to understand their own life better.
